The Dominican Republic Divorce Scam

Published by ktolman at 1:19 pm under Consumer, Scams, Tips Edit This

This is a classic “yeah right” scam.  To put it simply there are web sites offering to handle your divorce inexpensively and easily by using courts in the Dominican Republic without you ever having to leave the country.

Don’t be fooled.

Often these sites include incorrect, misleading, or fraudulent advice regarding legal proceedings in this country and other countries.  Like other scams they involve giving money away to people that you cannot meet.  In general it is risky to send money to anyone you don’t know in another country.

Unlike many other scams, however, these scams also include the risk of involving yourself in illegal court proceedings that could get you into more trouble than just losing your money.  Save yourself some money and consult with a local attorney first to find out just what the risks may be.
